Question:
We will be driving from Pisa to Castello Verazzano by Greve and would like to take a scenic route, stopping along the way to sightsee and have lunch. Do you have a recommendation?
Ellie, Dayton, Ohio

A couple the earlier replies should include routes that would fit the bill.

I probably sound like a broken record, but I would suggest Lucca. It's an hour's drive from the Pisa airport and a great lunch and touring spot. (My previous reply shows a real nice back road route.) This route is especially good if you aren't otherwise able to work Lucca into your itinerary.

Here's the Pisa - Lucca - Greve route:

One of the reasons I recommend Lucca is most towns along the way are not that appealing to visitors, certainly not on the order of Lucca. Given the frequency with which this question seems to be coming up, I'll do some exploring during my next trip there.

The other option is to head south from Pisa to Volterra. It's a bit longer and Volterra is an hour and a half from Pisa. The compromise with Volterra is that if you are making day trips from Greve to visit hilltowns, Volterra is a must-see in easy range. Lucca is bigger and not a hilltown, so would add some variety.

Here's the Volterra Greve route:
